NBA Draft Class 1998: Retrospective – Beyond a Decade (and a half) in the NBA

The NBA Draft Class of 1998 was headlined by Michael Olowokandi, one of the worst draft busts in NBA history according to sports pundits, but gained prominence chiefly due to UNC swingman Vince Carter, a hyper-athletic scorer and dunk impressario and arguably the greatest NBA dunker of all time; Dirk Nowitzki, arguably the best European player in NBA history, a sweet shooting forward and a league MVP; and Kansas Jayhawk Paul Pierce, a dominating swingman scorer who made scoring in the paint and in traffic an art form.

After more than a decade since the 1998 draft, the class has produced 6 NBA All-Stars, 1 NBA Most Valuable Player Awardee, 3 All-NBA Awardees, 1 All-NBA Defense Awardee, 1 NBA Sixth Man of the Year Awardee, 13 players have gone on to win an NBA Championship — with 2 more than once, and 2 NBA Finals MVP Awardees.

Below is a run-down of all the significant achievements of the 1998 Draft Class in the NBA and the International (FIBA) Stage as of September 2, 2014. Enjoy. 🙂
