NBA Draft Class 1999: Retrospective – Beyond a Decade (and a half) in the NBA

Although it is not as highly regarded as NBA Draft Classes 1984, 1996, and 2003, NBA Draft Class 1999 is still widely acknowledged by most basketball pundits as one of the best drafts in NBA history. The Class of 1999 was headlined by Elton Brand, a talented, do-it-all forward from Duke, athletic combo guards Steve Francis of Maryland and Baron Davis of UCLA, versatile forward Lamar Odom, Euroleague MVP Manu Ginobili of Argentina (who strangely slipped to the 2nd round in the draft – fortunately for San Antonio), hyper-athletic forward Shawn Marion and many other talented players.

After more than a decade since the 1999 draft, the class has produced 9 NBA All-Stars, 5 All-NBA Awardees, 3 All-NBA Defense Awardees, 3 NBA Sixth Man of the Year Awardees, 1 NBA Sportsmanship Awardee, 1 NBA J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award winner, 10 players have gone on to win an NBA Championship — with 4 more than once.

Below is a run-down of all the significant achievements of the 1999 Draft Class in the NBA and the International (FIBA) Stage as of September 10, 2014. Enjoy. 🙂
